Community Storytelling Photography with Local Trust for their Creating the Future Essay

Recently, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Local Trust on a documentary storytelling photography project exploring how art and creativity were bringing communities together. I travelled to four Big Local areas (Newington, Clubmoor, Devonshire West, and Winterton) to capture a variety of events and community spaces to accompany an essay by Maddy Costa called 'Creating the Future: Art, Communities and Change'.

In Newington, Winterton and Clubmoor, babies through to teenagers were being encouraged to get creative through art, model making, and music. And I was also given a tour of some public sculptures and murals in Newington, created by the local community for an an art trail around the city. In Devonshire West Ward in Eastbourne, I visited a variety of spaces where local people took part in creative activities including the Royal Hippodrome Theatre, Seaside Community Hub and Devonshire Collective.

As a community storytelling photographer, visiting local communities and documenting them is something I have a passion for, and I'm always keen to work with organisations which have a social focus. I always enjoy the opportunity to see how communities come together in different ways, in different parts of the country.

If you're looking for a versatile storytelling photographer to help capture the essence of your community, I'd love to work with you too. I'm based in Chichester, West Sussex but I'm always happy to travel and cover the rest of West and East Sussex, Hampshire, Kent, Surrey, Dorset and London too.
